RTCW4A

RTCW4A

Return to castle wolfenstein on android, it's a bit difficult to control, but that can be expected. If you are going to play this game seriously on android I recommend using Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

This is a much more demanding game, so lower graphics settings will need to be used.

Here is the [apk], have fun.

Homeworld, Description

Homeworld

Hello everyone, sorry that I haven't been posting in half a month or so. It's exams so nothing could really be done. Anyway I shall not disappoint with today's post. I was searching through my old disks a week or so ago and found a full copy of Homeworld. I have started playing this game, and think that it's amazing. The graphics aren't that great, but factoring in the age and scale of the game they're alright. If you're into RTS games then this game is a great choice

Description

One thing that slows down the process of posting is writing all the extra stuff, so from now on for posts about games, I will only give a short description. This will not include posts that aren't about games or games that are not up for download.

DOOM64

DOOM64

[DOOM 64] was originally made for the N64 (you don't say). It was an amazing game and built off of the original doom by making it darker and giving it more of a creepy atmosphere. This game looks and feels spectacular. It really makes the game feel serious. The source port that it runs on also has options that are like Z/GZ doom, which means that graphics and controls are no problem.

This game will not however work on android as of yet. This is unfortunate as of the 2D DOOM games this one has easily got to be my favourite. For it's size (less than 20MB) it can be run off PC's with the lowest of storage. So I thank the [doveloper(s)] of this project for allowing us pc users to play this unique and stylish take on DOOM.

Rise Of The Triad

Rise Of The Triad

I recently found an android source port for this game. This one however was only released for download in beta. This means that it might be glitchy or of lower quality, but it should still work fine.

I haven't played much of Rise Of The Triad. What I have played however makes it feel less like a game and more of a tech demo, which I admit was pretty good for the time (1995).

You can find the game files [here]. If you want to run this game on android then here is a link to the [apk] (it was rather difficult to find).

Open Arena

Open Arena

This is a game for [PC] and [Android] (best played on PC though). It is a free to play copy of quake 3 arena. Normally I don't like games copying other games but this one is really well done. And either way there aren't really any other copies of quake 3 around. And quake 3 is a paid game.

Well how does it play? This game plays, well . . .       like quake 3, if not better. It doesn't however have the same graphics. The texture work is slightly worse than quake 3 but, it is very close.

The android port has rather strange controls but if you play for long enough then you should be able to get used to them. Either that or you can run open arena through qiii4a (you can change the controls with this).

The game is definitely worth checking out and is great for running off of memory sticks as it is 470MB. The game is also really low demand, it will even run on the raspberry pi (no joke srsly look it up).

So it is certainly worth checking out this game.

HEXEN 2, and the Touch Port, ClassiCube (Minecraft Classic)

Hello everyone sorry that I haven't posted in over half a month, but I have found a couple of things that I have been looking for for a long time. Now I have found them, so here there are.

[X2]

I finally found it the last source port I have been hunting down, and now I have found it. This version does however require a specific version of HEXEN 2, one which I haven't come across before, good luck finding it, it's around 96MB though, so that might help.

But how does it run? It runs very well on most android devices, one thing I would recommend however is to not change the graphics settings too much. This may result in the game to crash, and try to save the settings at the same time. This results in corrupted graphics settings that will eventually destroy the game. But no worries as you can always replace the game files easily. The specific version of HEXEN 2 that they use is very small, which is why I assume that it was originally an N64 rom. This means that the storage isn't and issue. The game will have to load a bit between maps but they are no too long.

Over all this is a good port for a good game. I highly recommend trying this game out, I have supplied all of the files for download. I hope that people enjoy this game and port as much as I did.

[ClassiCube] (Minecraft Classic)

Well I was not expecting to find this anytime soon, but here it is. This game is essentially minecraft classic rewritten in C#. They are also improving on the original Classic formula by adding new blocks and features.

This game is free to play and has online multiplayer with lots of friendly servers for you to build on. This game is perfect for playing while listening to podcasts. There is just something so soothing about this game and the freedom that you get to build what ever you want. The file size is very small as in smaller than quake (less than 25MB) with all of the assets downloaded. This means that it is perfect for running on old or slow PCs and plays off a memory stick, so that you can take it with you.

This game is just perfect for people who want to waste time or to just relax. There is literally nothing stopping you from playing this game (even runs on Mac and Linux!). If anyone wants to play with me I will be on a server called beach, my username is cire_07 as usual. Have fun :)

Tetravex

Tetravex

That one game that no one ever heard of (unless you still use/remember windows 3.1). This is a game about moving squares to make the colours connect up. Each square has 4 colours on it one per side. Each side has to be next to one of the same colour. It's simple right? Wrong this game can be easy when it's 3x3 but when it gets bigger then it gets a whole lot harder. This game can be downloaded on android [here] for free. I recommend getting it if you need something to kill time.

8bitdo zero

8bitdo zero

[8bitdo] is a company that makes bluetooth games controllers. It specializes in retro looking controllers. It can be used to play android games (most things work). If you want to run source ports however then you will have to use the [Beloko] ones because the [4a] ones don't support controllers. The controller works a dream with minimal lag. It does however take a while to set up, and may need to be setup a few times before it works properly. But I assure quality. If anyone needs help setting up their controller then please leave me a message, and I will try to help you with it.

This controller is a bit different from the other 8bitdo controllers as it doesn't have a retro aesthetic. But this controller also stands out from the other controllers because of it's size. This controller is the size of half of the palm of my hand. It is tiny, great for people with small hands. Even so it is very comfortable, and very cute :3

It also claims to have a battery life of 20 hours, which is amazing for such a tiny device. It probably doesn't use much power though. This controller is also quite cheap, I got mine for about £10 (little over $14 (US)). This makes this controller quite handy to just carry around in case of an emergency situation where you need a bluetooth controller. I definitely recommend this.

URU

URU

Hello everyone just yesterday I found that a game I have played for ages is now available to download for free. This game is called [URU]. It takes place in the MYST series. It revolves around exploration and puzzle solving. The graphics are very good, and especially for 2003, it does however suffer from a bit of mouse lag and frame drop at higher resolutions. It isn't very noticeable though and the game still remains playable. The story is very good, and if you have read or are reading the MYST books this game will help you visualize the locations described in there. This game is very peaceful and is a great way to escape reality for a while.

For the total price of completely free this game is definitely worth playing. I highly recommend it. It also has an amazing community of people that will be sure to help you with puzzles.

Populous

Populous

Just yesterday I rediscovered an old game called [Populous the beginning]. This game is a real time strategy. You control a tribe, and have to defeat the other tribes. You have a shaman which can cast spells to aid in the destruction of your enemy. You also control your shamans followers, called braves. They can build houses and gather resources when required. The graphics are very good for the time (1998). It uses 3D for the terrain and buildings, and 2D for the units. It also uses a semi side side on perspective. I also like how you can see the curve of the earth. It makes the units look really big yet really small. It is quite a challenging game as I have only just finished the first system.

Either way I highly recommend that you check out this game for your self as it is an amazing experience.

DOOM 3, Quake 4

DOOM 3

I like [DOOM 3]. It's one of those games where you need to play it in the dark with the lights off and with the volume turned up. It has quite a few jump scares and definitely has a creepy atmosphere to it. I only have one criticism with the game and that is that the guns don't sound powerful. True most of them aren't but they should still sound powerful. Even so I think that they also move too far away from the original DOOM games. Even so  it is still a good game that I would recommend to people.

Quake 4

I really like [Quake 4], if you have to choose between Quake 4 and Doom 3, Quake 4 is definitely the one to go for. The guns sound so much more powerful. Even the gameplay is better. It sticks to Quake 2 over the other Quake games. This really works well as the strogg bases don't feel like levels. They feel like actual military bases that were constructed for purpose. It all has a sense of realism to it. The part I have currently got up to is where you have to destroy giant metallic spiders with a hover tank. And believe me they know how to make tanks. Definitely get this game if you are looking for something to play.

Fedora

Fedora

Just yesterday I installed [Fedora] on my old computer, and I have to say I was impressed. It has a very nice layout and it is very easy to find things. It can also play some steam games (30%) at an ok framerate. But the place where this operating system really succeeds is in the internet browsing. It is so much faster than on windows, or anything I've used before. This is a great choice for people who spend a lot of time on the internet. It is also very small for an operating system with this much functionality (1.4Gb). And for a total price of completely free this is one of my favourites.

Source ports 2, Half-Life, Starwarfare

Source ports 2

I've been looking up more source ports for android, and it turns out that they're no so common. Especially as if you type in android source port into Google it comes up with this blog.

This means that source ports for android aren't as popular as I originally thought. I wish that more people knew about these source ports as a lot of (but not all) games on Google play store are rip-off candycrush or rip-off clash of clans, and even the occasional rip-off doodle jump and other rubbish that inhabits the recommended games.

Half-Life

Just yesterday I found a Half-Life port called [xash 3d] for android. At first I thought this would be like DIII4A all over again, but I was wrong, It was quite large (because Half-Life isn't exactly small). It does however run really REALLY well, it even runs on my cheap £50 phone (which is really good for the what it is btw). The default controls for this game look horrible at first but they actually work really well, they can also be edited like the touch games such as hexen touch. If you have Half-Life and wan't to play this game on the go then this is the way to do it.

Starwarfare

[Starwarfare: alien invasion] is an amazing, underrated, third-person shooter that is available for free on Google play store. It also has RPG elements which mobile games are so fond of, and is just under 200MB. If you are looking for a good looking high quality game with good gameplay then this is the game for you, it is low demand which means that it will run smoothly on anything made after the samsung galaxy tab 2, which means that most android devices can run it. It is truly a hidden gem.

Delays

Delays

Hello, sorry I haven't posted in a while. I have had a lot of work to do, and either way not too much has happened this week. Although today I did pre-order [Prospekt] on steam. It is essentially a sequel to Half-Life opposing force, it started off as a steam greenlight game. However valve has given the go ahead for this game. It also looks really faithful to the Half-Life series, as it would because it was  project had help from valve employees. I am really looking forwards to this game as it will give us something to play while we wait for Half-Life 3. I simply can't wait to play it.

Windlands

[Windlands] is a game that was released on steam earlier this year, I have not played this game yet, but if the demo and the steam page are anything to go by then It looks like a well worthwhile investment. It is a game about swing from grappling hooks across vast low-polygonal maps with an amazing soudtrack. The demo is just my escape from reality, and I'm sure that the full game will be to.

ATTACCA and Lost games

ATTACCA

Hello there everyone.

A long time ago when I was browsing google play I stumbled across a game. This game was called [ATTACCA], it had gameplay similar to super hexagon where you have to avoid the oncoming walls.
Unfortunately however it is no longer available on google play and the apk can't be found on the internet.(Be aware that most of the apk files are spyware, and quite seriouss spyware for mobile devices. They can be identified as spyware by whether or not they say downloader in the title and/or their permissions when you go to install the "game").

If anyone can find the contact information for the creator of this game or the legitimate apk file then please contact me on google plus.

Lost games

I would really hate this to become one of those lost games that can no longer be played because it simply cant be downloaded any more. This is really sad as this is a great game, and a great example of a game that doesn't need to be complex or have good graphics to be fun. I always hate it when the game I want to play can no longer be acquired in any way shape or form.

I hope this game comes back.

1st - Hello, Source ports and android, Chiptunes, Laptop

Hello, my name is cire. I am making this blog because I am bad at English and seriously need to get some writing practice. I have absolutely no idea what to write about so the subject of the blog will keep changing.

Source ports and android

I have recently managed to get a lot of id software games to run on android, and I think this is rather interesting and I think that if anyone wants to get into playing old games then this is a good start. There are only two that I'm having a bit of trouble with at the moment and that is doom and hexen 2. It's most likely because the game says it needs to download a file before starting. This is only a problem because the internet connection I'm currently using blocks all ports. Here is a link to ports of these android source ports (must have legit game files as well)[http://www.beloko.com/?page=games]. I recommend all the ports for the doom engine and wolfenstein. I have not yet as explained earlier tried the hexen 2 source port yet so cannot comment on that. I'm sure the ports would be fine for the rtcw and quake games as well, but I use something different for them. For these games I use the 4a ports (4 android)[https://play.google.com/store/search?q=proger10]. These games are ported very well, they may however have trouble running on some newer phones (believe me I've tried). If you can get it to work then it's definitely worth using.

Chiptunes

With some food it takes you a while before you start to like it. Chiptunes are like this, an acquired taste in music. They use custom software on an old games console to directly control the sound chip. some of the artists I recommend:

Trash80 [http://trash80.com/#/music]
Nullsleep [http://www.nullsleep.com/]
Nordloef [https://nordloef.bandcamp.com/] (I really like the small wonders remix)
Chipzel [http://chipzel.co.uk/]
Knife City [http://knifecity.bandcamp.com/album/precious-jewel-ep] (BAD LANGUAGE)

Laptop

I am currently using the asus eeebook. It was a pretty good price (£150). They said it couldn't do games. They lied. It can run Bit.Trip presents runner 2 future legend of rythm alien (2013 (and yes that's it's name)) 70 fps at 1000 by 900 or something like that, loading times are a bit long. But still it works and works well.

I think that'll be it for today's post, I've written enough and have run out of ideas. Cya next time
